It’s an open secret that Imran Khan’s wife Avantika has made a guest appearance in his upcoming Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu. But what was kept hush-hush until now was that late actor Vinod Mehra’s daughter Soniya too has a cameo in the Shakun Batra film.
“Imran’s character (Rahul) will be seen dating Soniya for a while. The two meet in the film as family friends. They share a good chemistry,” says source from the film.
Interestingly, the lead actor also has a make-out scene with Soniya in the bathroom. “It seems like Imran, after Delhi Belly (2011), has shed all his inhibitions. Earlier, he would feel shy about these scenes, but now, he understands the character’s needs. So, it wasn’t an issue at all,” says the insider.
Not many know that Soniya and Imran had auditioned together for his debut film, Jaane Tu...Ya Jaane Na (2008), but things didn’t work out for her. She had tried her luck for the part that was eventually bagged by Genelia D’Souza in Abbas Tyrewala’s hit romantic comedy.
When contacted, Imran confirms Soniya’s presence, saying, “After a gap of almost three years, we (Soniya and him) met again for rehearsals, a day before the shoot of Ek Main…. We started off as two friends catching up, which also happens to be the relationship our characters in the film share.”
Soniya is the daughter of the late actor and his third wife, Kiran. She made her acting debut in Victoria No. 203 (2007), a remake of the 1972 classic. After the release of Victoria 203, which was a box-office dud, Soniya took a break from acting for three years. She is regularly seen on the city’s party circuit, and has made a name for herself among the fashion forward.
