Bollywood is one big fraternity that churns out hundreds of films every year and it is not surprising that several aspiring stars are lost in the lustre of others. While Akshay Khanna is staging a comeback in a big-budget film, we bring you many others who made promising starts but fell on the wayside.

1. Kimi Katkar

Though her debut in 1985 (Patthar Dil) was a dud, she later played the love interest of Amitabh Bachchan in the 1995 multi-starrer Hum. Considered as one of the hottest properties at the time, she hogged the limelight when her song Chumma Chumma became a superhit. However, we never saw her on the silver screen after that.

2. Mamta Kulkarni

After making her debut in Nana Patekar’s Tiranga (1993), Mamata went on to be a part of several hit films including the Akshay Kumar-starrer Sabse Bada Khiladi (1995), the Shah Rukh Khan and Salman-starrer Karan Arjun (1995), Baazi (1996), China Gate (1998) and Beqabu (1995). She was last seen in Kabhi Hum Kabhie Tum (2002) and disappeared from the public eye. Recently, it was discovered that she had turned spiritual and wrote a book on spirituality. In a recent television interview, Mamata said she’s never returning to showbiz.

4. Fardeen Khan

After making a grand debut with Prem Aggan (1998), for which he also bagged the Filmfare best newcomer award, Fardeen went on to be a part of several hits such as Pyaar Tune Kya Kiya (2001), Love Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega (2001) and Khushi (2003). Fardeen was last seen onscreen in the forgettable dud Dulha Mil Gaya (2010).

5. Kumar Gaurav

After a grand debut with Love Story (1981), Kumar Gaurav appeared in around 15 films before including hits such as Teri Kasam (1982), Sanjay Dutt-starrer Naam (1986) and Kaante (2002). He was last seen in Bihaad (2009).

6. Ayesha Takia

After bagging the Filmfare award for best debut in 2004 for Taarzan: The Wonder Car, Ayesha appeared in a few forgettable films such as Dil Maange More (2004), Home Delivery (2005) and Shaadi Se Pehle (2006). With Nagesh Kukonoor’s Dor (2006), she received widespread critical acclaim for her performance. After the Salman Khan-starrer Wanted (2009), she has only appeared in small films and has not appeared onscreen after Aap Ke Liye (2013).
