Despite Actor Govinda’s insulting remarks—“Varun Dhawan can never be like me”—during the promotion of his upcoming film Aa Gaya Hero, the Badrinath Ki Dulhania actor has responded in a dignified manner.
After initially refusing to be drawn into the unflattering rant by Govinda, Varun has said that the senior actor was right. “Woh kehte hai mujhme aur unme koi samantaye nahi hai. Yeh sahi hai. Kisi mein samantayein ho bhi nahi sakti. (He says there is no similarity between him and me, which is right. There cannot be similarities between people.)”
Varun made the remarks at an event after Govinda lashed out at several people in the industry, including Karan Johar, and even Varun’s father, David Dhawan, with whom he had a spree of hits in the 1990s.
In a recent interview, the actor had said that the filmmaker did not stand by him when he was going through a bad phase and did not take him in any of his upcoming films, despite being requested to several times.
Varun, known for his comic timing and dance moves, has time and again been called the “new-age Govinda”. But the senior actor has said that the comparison between him and Varun is ‘fake’ and that Varun can never be like him.
“Woh varisht hai, mein unka samman karta hoon. Mein unki barabari kabhi nahi kar sakta. (He is a superior actor and I respect him. I will never be able to match up to him),” Varun said.
Govinda and David, who had been among the most successful actor-director duo in Bollywood, are no more on good terms.
The duo worked together in 17 movies including Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, Raja Babu, Coolie No 1, Hero No 1 and Haseena Maan Jaayegi, among others.
Govinda’s next Aa Gaya Hero is slated to release on March 3.
