Vidya Balan donates her Rs 5 lakh award money to build toilets

Vidya Balan, who is the brand ambassador for national sanitation in India, donated Rs 5 lakh that she received at an award function to an NGO to build toilets in rural parts of India.

Vidya Balan is the brand ambassador for national sanitation in India. She has been actively involved in spreading awareness about cleanliness and the need for sanitation facilities in the country. Last week, Vidya was awarded the Woman Icon of the Year award and Rs 5 lakh at an event, for her contribution to cinema.

A source close to the actor says she told the organisers of the awards function to donate the money to Swades Foundation that works towards building toilets in several rural parts of India.

“Vidya has been actively involved in the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. She wanted to contribute towards building toilets in the country. The team of the Swades Foundation was surprised when they received a cheque worth Rs5 lakh,” says the source.
