Mumbai pacer Shardul Thakur has joined Rising Pune Supergiants for the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League, a media release from the BCCI stated.
This is the second transfer the Pune franchise has been involved in after they acquired the services of batsman Mayank Agarwal. Thakur was Mumbai’s second-highest wicket taker in the Ranji Trophy last season with 27 scalps to his name in 10 matches. Even in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy, Thakur has impressed with the ball and is the joint third-highest wicket-taker with 14 wickets from five matches for Mumbai.
Thakur was released by Kings XI Punjab midway through the ninth edition last year after being bought for R20 lakh in the 2014 season. He featured in just one game for the red-and-white brigade, against Delhi Daredevils in 2015. In a losing cause, he picked up the wicket of fellow Mumbaikar Shreyas Iyer while giving away 38 runs in the match.
Apart from the transfers, Pune have made a quite a few changes to their side. They bought Ben Stokes at a whopping fee of R14.5 crore while dropping Mahendra Singh Dhoni as their captain; replacing him with Australian skipper Steve Smith.
