7 eminent doctors among Padma Bhushan awardees

Hinduja has been credited with creating perhaps the biggest gift for childless couples; India's first test tube baby and is recognised for her contribution to the In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) technology and embryo transfer.

Periappuram performed the first successful human to human heart transplant in Kerala and broke major grounds with achievements in beating heart, awake bypass and total arterial revascularization surgeries.

Mandal is one of the pioneers of a minimal invasive surgical procedure in India. He is based in the national capital.

Other doctors who appear in the list of awardees include cardiologist Mansoor Hasan, endrocrinologist Sivapatham Vittal, gastroentrologist Madanaur Ahmed Ali and A Marthanda Pillai, a neurologist from Kerala.
