Delhi’s Apollo Hospitals help Google create health pop-up cards

With diseases, medical conditions and their symptoms among frequently searched queries on Google, Apollo Hospitals in the Capital helped the search engine create easy-to-understand health cards with relevant information that pop up on the results page.

“Around the world, health conditions are among the most important things that people ask Google about. In fact, one in 20 searches is for health-related information,” said Prem Ramaswami, senior product manager, Google.

Specialists from Apollo Hospitals review the cards to create a knowledge base of credible information in India.

“The experience and expertise of our consultants were used for providing clinical validation to the cards and to spread awareness about prevention of diseases,” said Dr Anupam Sibal, group medical director, Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Limited.

Google also consulted with the All India Institute of Medical Sciences and ASHA workers to ensure that the information presented is useful and understandable.

The cards display information such as typical symptoms, how common the condition is, if it is contagious and the age group it usually affects, among others with illustrations. They cover over 400 medical conditions.

Keeping Indian context in mind, tropical diseases such as malaria and dengue have also been added to the list.

The cards will be available in both English and Hindi. Lighter version will be available for slower connections.
