Former education minister and MLA Harsh Dev Singh on Monday took over the command of the Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) in the state.
"Having been convinced about the capability and commitment of the upcoming team of the party, I have opted out of the chairmanship and nominated Harsh Dev Singh as new chairman", outgoing chairman of JKNPP and member of National Integration Council (NIC), Bhim Singh told reporters here on Monday.
The decision was unanimously taken by the party leadership on October 27, during the accession day celebrations at Udhampur, he said.
The party has also appointed a 17-member core group to assist the chairman, Singh said.
Harsh Dev Singh, who is presenly the leader of JKNPP Legislative Party, was education minister in the Congress-PDP government led by the Mufti Mohmmad Sayeed. He is a second time MLA from Ramnagar Assembly segment and veteran lawyer of the J&K high court.
Speaking to reporters, Harsh Dev Singh said that he would fight for re-organisation of the state of Jammu and Kashmir.
