A woman of Beding village in the Talwara block was allegedly beaten up by the village sarpanch and her accomplices over a property dispute.

Police booked the sarpanch, Santosh Kumari, and three others after the video of the incident went viral. Complainant Veena Kumari said her family had a property dispute with the BJP-supported sarpanch, who had allegedly encroached upon their land. Veena said when she went to the site on Sunday, the sarpanch, panch Sham Lal, former panch Balbir Singh and others attacked her with an iron rod. She alleged that the accused punched her and dragged her by the hair.

Veena alleged that instead of taking action on her complaint, police registered a case against her.

Talwara SHO Surinder Kumar rebutted the allegations and said the parties were not cooperating in investigation. He said a case under Sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 447 (criminal trespass) and 354 (assault with intent to outrage modesty) of the IPC had been registered against the sarpanch, her daughter Jyoti Bala and the two panches. Except Jyoti, all accused had been arrested, he added.
