Filmmaker SS Rajamouli, who is busy with his magnum opus Baahubali: The Conclusion, is already planning his next film. It is expected to be an epic trilogy based on the Mahabharata and is likely to feature three heavyweights of Indian cinema — Aamir Khan, Rajinikanth and Mohanlal, according to Bollywood Life.
If this comes true, it will be a coup of sorts with the superstars from three languages.
Rajamouli, we all know, is a huge fan of the ancient Indian epic. His Baahubali too is inspired in parts from the epic.
“He is thrilled about Mahabharata,” Bollywood Life quoted a source as saying.
The maverick filmmaker, whose Baahubali 2 will hit the screens on April 28, is still to decide on the characters each of these actors will essay, reported Bollywood Life.
“Rajamouli is currently busy with Baahubali 2, but he is thrilled about Mahabharat. He wants to take Aamir Khan, Rajinikanth and Mohanlal on board for this project. He is yet to decide on the characters these stars will portray,” the sources said.
One of the reasons the filmmaker wants to cast the trio is the fact that apart from being good actors, all the three of them come with solid fan bases.
Since, Rajamouli wants his film to have a pan-India appeal, he wants these three in his film.
The film will be made at an estimated budget of Rs 400 crore, reported Bollywood Life. The trilogy will reportedly be shot in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi simultaneously.
Earlier in December 2016, while promoting Dangal, Aamir Khan had expressed a desire to work Rajamouli as he is a “huge fan” of the director.
Going further, the 51-year-old actor mentioned that he would love to play Lord Krishna. “I’m a huge fan of Rajamouli’s work and if he ever plans to make Mahabharata, I’d love to play Krishna or Karna. I might actually go with Krishna,” he had told reporters.
