Sania Mirza and former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar got into a bit of a heated exchange on Twitter on Wednesday after the tennis star tweeted about her reign as the world’s top-ranked doubles player a day earlier.
On Tuesday, Sania Mirza celebrated completing 80 straight weeks as the number one women’s doubles player with a tweet.
Several well-known personalities and fans congratulated her on the achievement, and Manjrekar was one of them. Additionally, he also pointed out that Mirza hadn’t clarified that the No. 1 ranking was in doubles.
No 1 doubles player you mean. Congrats! https://t.co/Qrdyigdrro— Sanjay Manjrekar (@sanjaymanjrekar) October 19, 2016
Mirza, who began participating exclusively in doubles since 2013 after being unable to cope with the physical rigours of singles, pointed out somewhat sarcastically that the doubles aspect of her tweet ought to have been understood, given she doesn’t play singles anymore. She did thank Manjrekar, however.
Since I don't play singles anymore isn't that obvious/common sense?my bad,common sense is not that common after all I guess.. :) https://t.co/fXhnaQZEM7— Sania Mirza (@MirzaSania) October 19, 2016
Hey.. But thanks for your wishes though ofcourse https://t.co/fXhnaQZEM7— Sania Mirza (@MirzaSania) October 19, 2016
Manjrekar wasn’t done, however, and the exchange went back and forth for a while.
Well, you missed out an important detail for someone like me who lacks common sense :) https://t.co/nLgRFONxrn— Sanjay Manjrekar (@sanjaymanjrekar) October 19, 2016
Yes, the article also says No. 1 doubles player in the world. Said what I had to, will leave all balls outside the off stump alone now 😊👋🏽 https://t.co/LP37fxYE0s— Sanjay Manjrekar (@sanjaymanjrekar) October 19, 2016
