Everyone loved Anushka Shetty’s character Devasena in SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali. So, when it was announced that the writer of the film, KV Vijayendra Prasad, is coming up with a show whose lead female actor is also called Devasena, it caught everyone’s interest. However, Prasad denies that there are any similarities between the big screen and small screen characters, except that both the characters have a similar name and are both strong woman.
“While we were discussing the story of Aarambh, we had used the name as a reference for the very strong female protagonist we had. The name seemed apt and sounded right for the character. Otherwise the two characters have nothing to do with each other – except for the common trait of being women of substance,” says Prasad, who has also written the script of the Salman Khan-starrer Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015).
Aarambh, directed by Goldie Behl, highlights the story of two civilisations, the matriarchal Dravidian and the patriarchal Aryan. How the two of them clash and have all the right reasons to do so. The show stars Karthika Nair, Rajniesh P Duggall, Tanuja Mukerji, Tej Sapru, among others.
When asked whether he has any plans of exploring a similar story for the big screen, he says that it would be good. “It would be really nice to do this (story) on big screen, as there have been multiple projects that have done well on Television and then adapted for Big screen or vice versa,” says Prasad, who is at the moment celebrating the success of Baahubali and the accolades his son SS Rajamouli and the entire team has been receiving for the effort.
