Art for art’s sake and beyond: Raza, Souza, Ram Kumar on display

Delhi will host an exhibition-cum-sale, where art lovers will get a chance to acquire premium artworks. The proceeds from the sales will go towards supporting social causes. Take a look at some of the artworks that will be displayed at the show.

Art lovers in Delhi will get an opportunity to buy some of the premium artworks by legendary Indian artists, and that too at competitive prices. This exhibition-cum-sale is being organised by Art for Concern.

The show features 60 contemporary and modern artworks by 45 renowned Indian artists such as Late SH Raza, FN Souza, Jaysree Burman, Ram Kumar, Tushar Joag and M Sivanesan. Titled ‘The Premium Art Show’, the exhibition opens its doors to the viewers on September 10.

The participating artists, through their works on display, endeavour to highlight important issues. Artist Suneel Mamadapur has specially created a painting for the show, which aims to spread awareness about environment. He says, “It shows our largest mammal, the elephant, in a jubilant mood, swinging a branch of Plumeria flowers. It signifies oneness with nature; interconnectedness of life in a sublime manner suggesting various environmental issues.”

While artist Tushar Joag, says, “As an artist, to contribute to a good cause through my work is a way of paying back to society.” The proceeds from the sales will go towards supporting social causes targeting health and literacy among women and children, community development and elderly care.

The proceeds from the sales will go towards supporting social causes targeting health and literacy among women and children, community development and elderly care. “It is heartening to have the support of so many artists. This gives us confidence to further help the underprivileged section of society,” says Anjana Khanna, head of the organisation.
