More than art, that’s art from algae!

Jonathan Longuet has given 10 years of his life to this unique art form. A young achiever, the 29-year-old French artist talks about his creations with passion and precision. But before we could ask him anything, he quips about his artistry, "It is different. It is new. It is educative. It is more than art."
The Frenchman’s exhibition, titled, Jungle Me, brings together craft and science, sees the use of algae (a plant-like bacterium) and water on fabric, and takes inspiration from the quirky talent of Indian street fashion photographer Manou.
The creator of the work tells us in crumbled English, "I have taught this art form in schools back in France. It is both physics and biology, amalgamating with art. This is my first time in India and I am thrilled to introduce this work to this art-loving country."

Longuet, who has been in India for two months, has taken over 20 weeks to create 16 pieces of art. Although the prices of the works have been reduced to appeal to the Indian market, each piece of art costs between R1 and R5 lakhs.
When we spoke to the curator of the show, 49-year-old, Delhi-based veteran artist Elizabeth Rogers, she could not stop gushing about the unusual work of art, and said, "Whether it is land art, earth art or environment art, they all have significance, and you see that in this exhibition."
The coordinator of the show, 30-year-old Indian artist Bhavin Mistry, adds, "Such unique art has been showcased in India for the first time. It has an element of surprise and knowledge."
