State at 50

On the occasion of Maharashtra having grown 50 years old this year, Pradeep Chandra’s exhibit will showcase pictures of 50 people who’ve made Maharashtra proud.

On the occasion of Maharashtra having grown 50 years old this year, photographer Pradeep Chandra is organising an exhibition called "50 Faces- Pride of Maharashtra". It will include pictures of 50 such faces, who have contributed to the state’s pride. When asked what his criteria for picking these personalities was, he says, "The names in the list are self explanatory. Some immediately make you think of the state and this city." the many pictures, some used and some rare, the most memorable one will be his first of a still of Waheeda Rahman. The 60-year-old artiste’s photograph appeared in print when he was in class five. "My brother was an assistant director on a film that starred Waheeda Rahman. He had a camera, and I clicked the image." Chandra’s last book AB The Legend — A Photographer’s Tribute, will soon be followed by his next, on MF Hussain. Even though he has had lots of exhibitions in the past, this one comes after almost a decade.

Of the many on that list of 50, Pratibha Patil, Lata Mangeshkar, Sachin Tendulkar, Kishori Amonkar, Madhuri Dixit, Bhimsen Joshi, Sunil Gavaskar, Amitabh Bachchan, Anil Ambani, Ratan Tata, R K Laxman, Mukesh Ambani, Alaq Padamsee, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Shekhar Suman and Ekta Kapoor are a few.

Exhibition to be held on December 3 at Le Royal Meridien, Mumbai. “50 Faces — Pride of Maharashtra” aims to feature 50 eminent personalities who have contributed to Maharashtra’s pride.
