16 lakh educated unemployed in Madhya Pradesh: Economic survey

Even as the chief minister has been making tall claims about creating job avenues for the youth, there are over 16 lakh educated unemployed in Madhya Pradesh, according to the latest figures presented in the state economic survey report 2014-15 that was tabled in the state assembly.

Even as the chief minister has been making tall claims about creating job avenues for the youth, there are over 16 lakh educated unemployed in Madhya Pradesh, according to the latest figures presented in the state economic survey report 2014-15 that was tabled in the state assembly here on Tuesday.

According to the report, over 17.5 lakh educated unemployed youth were registered in the employment exchanges across the state at the end of 2013, which declined to 16.5 lakh by November 2014.

The report adds that employment was provided to 300 people in 2014-15 (till November 2014), while in 2013, 5000 people were provided employment through 48 employment exchange offices.

Many youngsters directly try to get jobs in the private sector. With PEB recruitment scam hogging the headlines for a long time, youngsters are already feeling disillusioned with the government’s intention to provide jobs to the deserving youth in the state.

"The recent recruitment scam has made it clear to us that we should not have any expectations from the state government that it will provide jobs to the meritorious students. What matters most here is whether you have any strong political connection," said Shivang Singh from Subash Nagar.

Other highlights

During 2013-14, the dropout rate of boys and girls from Class 9 to Class 12 was 24 and 27% respectively
