Bhopal nursing home to cough up Rs. 10,000 for hiding info on dengue patients

A private nursing home on Wednesday was fined Rs. 10,000 for violating the norms of Madhya Pradesh Pollution Control Board (MPPCB) and hiding information about patients suffering with dengue from health department.

A team of health department visited the hospital at Mata Mandir area last week and found several irregularities. On the basis of the report, the chief medical and health officer (CMHO), Bhopal, Dr Pankaj Shukla penalised the nursing home.

Dr Shukla said despite repeated reminders, the nursing home didn't make recommended improvements. The office of the CMHO also served a notice on the nursing home owner a few days ago. The nursing home authorities were hiding information about dengue patients undergoing treatment there, despite strict instructions that every case must be reported to health department.

We have asked the authorities of the hospital to make the required changes. The registration of the hospital will be renewed only if the hospital makes changes as per guidelines of the health department and Pollution Control Board, the CMHO said.

The inspection team of health department also found that the interns of Bachelor of Ayurveda Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) were treating critical patients in the hospital. Not a single allopathic doctor was available in the hospital during inspection.
