Launching the BJP’s election campaign, the party's Prime Ministerial candidate LK Advani said in Bhopal on Thursday that the 2009 General Elections was as much important for the country as the General Elections of 1977, 1989 and 1998 that changed the course of politics in the country.

Advani was addressing the BJP workers ‘Mahakumbh’ organised by the State BJP at Jamboree Maidan today.

He said the course of politics in the country was influenced by three leaders, three rathyatras and three elections in the past. The three leaders include late Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, late Pt Deendayal Upadhyay and Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

The three rathyatras include the rathyatra he took out from Somnath to Ayodhya, former BJP national president Murali Manohar Joshi’s Ekta Yatra and Swaran Jayanti rath yatra he took out to pay homage to the martyrs.

Similarly, the three elections that changed the course of politics include 1977, 1989 and 1998 General Elections.

Advani said that if the BJP won the 2009 Lok Sabha elections it would not be the victory of the BJP but of the entire country.
