Kaptan Singh Solanki is at present BJP Organising Secretary for Maharashtra while Dave is a vice-president of the BJP Madhya Pradesh unit.

The byelection for the two seats became necessary after senior BJP leader Sushma Swaraj and the party's Madhya Pradesh Unit president, Narendra Singh Tomar got elected to the Lok Sabha this year from Madhya Pradesh.

While Sushma won with a record margin of around 3.80 lakh votes from the Vidisha constituency, Tomar won by roughly one lakh votes from the Morena constituency.

The decision to field these two from the Rajya Sabha comes in the wake of opposition from the State BJP to have any outsider as a member in the Upper House in the Parliament.

A decision on the two names was taken last evening by the BJP's Central Election Committee, New Delhi.
