Dalit farmer set ablaze, dies

A Dalit farmer who had allegedly been set afire by a property dealer and his associates on Wednesday evening succumbed to his burn injuries here on Thursday.

The victim, Sumer Singh Ahirwar, 40, died at the Hamidia Hospital.

In his dying declaration, Ahirwar said he had sold the property dealer five acres of land and when he asked for the money, the latter set him afire.

Addl SP Prashant Khare confirmed Ahirwar's death and said a hunt had been launched to arrest the accused, Mahendra Jat, his accomplice Dilip Soni and the other co-accused.

The accused allegedly burnt him at his house in Berasia in Bhopal district.

Ahirwar said he had been promised Rs 8 lakh for the five acres but the property dealer had given him only Rs 3 lakh.
