In a strongly-worded letter to the chairman of the special investigation team (SIT), which is monitoring the STF probe, Singh said he was “appalled by the approach adopted by the SIT in such a sensitive case”.

“It is a sad day for the Indian legal system that a report authenticating the contents of a pen drive and excel sheets supplied by an agency like Truth Lab, Bangalore, is being rejected summarily on a mere demonstration of STF staff whose integrity is suspect and in dispute,” the Congress leader said.

Last week, the high court endorsed the STF’s “findings” on the evidence.

Chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, whom Singh has accused of being involved in the scam, later said the court’s observation vindicated his stand that the Congress leader was running a smear campaign against him.
