The attack on officials by miscreants involved in illegal sand mining at two places in the state has once again thrust the issue into limelight. This is the third such attack on government employees in the state.

Earlier, on April 5, a police constable was crushed to death when a truck loaded with sand toppled on its side in Morena as he attempted to stop it, and on May 17, a police inspector narrowly escaped with his life as sand smugglers tried to crush him under a JCB machine in Rewa.

The latest incident took place in Bakakheri village in Shajapur district, when a mining department team led by mining inspector Rina Pathak was attacked by a mob.
