A group of tribal women, who had gone to collect ‘mahua’ in the forests on Saturday morning saw the victim and took the woman to a primary health centre in Tamia. She was later shifted to Chhindwada District hospital, where her condition is stated to be critical.

The couple - Umesh Parihar and Lalita Parihar - along with their child reportedly had gone from Betul to Tamia for a picnic.

According to the police, the couple had a dispute on Friday night following which Umesh threw acid his wife and dumped her in a ditch.

The woman sustained grievous injuries and was not able to give her detailed statement before police personnel. The police launched a manhunt for the accused.
