Shailesh, 50, died at his residence at 8 Mall avenue bungalow in Lucknow on Wednesday morning.

The Congress said Shailesh died in mysterious circumstances and it was essential to have a CBI inquiry into the case that would reveal the exact cause of his death.

Leader of Opposition Satyadev Katare also said that the CBI inquiry should be ordered in the case.

Katare said he has written to the state and Uttar Pradesh government on the matter.

Shailesh’s name had emerged in connection with the Professional Examination Board (PEB) scam last month.

The Special Task Force (STF) charge sheet which was presented in the court, mentioned his role in selection of 10 candidates into the contract teachers' recruitment examination, which was conducted by the board.
