Three of the four daughters of advocate Vijay Shankar Mishra and wife Girija Mishra have found place in the record books for simultaneously being awarded PhDs from the Avdhesh Pratap Singh (APS) University in Rewa in 2014.

Vijay Shankar Mishra received a letter from the Limca Book of Records on Wednesday about the national record having been set by his three daughters — Archana Mishra, Anjana Mishra and Anshu Mishra.

Mishra said, “I have been told by representatives of the Limca Book of Records that the feat, along with pictures of my daughters, will be published prominently in the next edition of the book which is slated to hit the stands in February, 2017.”

While the eldest daughter, 36-year-old Archana, was awarded a PhD in history for her research on ‘Woman amid Indian Traditions,’ the younger siblings —Anjana, 33 and Anshu, 30 — were awarded doctorates in environmental science. Anjana was awarded a doctorate for her research on Assessment of physio-chemical and biological profile of potable water of Satna district of MP and Anshu got the doctorate for her research work on study on drinking water quality and water-borne diseases of Rewa city.

However, the proud father wondered if the feat would inspire other girls or not since his daughters have failed to get a job despite the PhDs.

“It is a great achievement for us and also a perfect tribute to the slogan of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao. But our Prime Minister needs to answer us how daughters of others will be inspired by my girls’ feat, when they have been deprived of jobs in the era of caste-based reservations,” said Mishra.

After failing to get jobs as lecturers in the state, Archana and Anshu, both law graduates, are preparing for judicial services exams while Anjana, with an MSc and MPhil degree, is preparing for civil services examinations in New Delhi.
