Student dies while taking board exam in Bhopal

A class 12 student died while taking her board examination at Sarojini Naidu School in Shivaji Nagar on Monday. Eighteen-year-old Priyanka Ahirwar, a student of commerce stream, was a resident of Chandbad area. Police said Priyanka’s prolonged illness could be the reason behind her sudden death.

Priyanka’s father Munnalal Ahirwar said she left at around 8am on Monday for her examination in business studies. At 10 am, she complained of vomiting sensation and uneasiness to the invigilator.

Later she fainted and was rushed to the examination control room where she was given glucose. As her condition deteriorated further, she was taken to JP Hospital in Bhopal where the doctors declared her brought dead.

According to Munnalal, Priyanka was suffering from illness since six months. Earlier, she had suffered from typhoid and later she was diagnosed with jaundice. Her parents even stopped her to sit in the board exams as she was weak.

District education officer KPS Tomar said Priyanka was a private candidate of class 12 at Sarojani Naidu School. Tomar along with DEO, town inspector of Habibganj police station Sudhir Arjaria, SDM and secretary of board of secondary education reached the examination centre after the incident.

Arjaria said, “We were suspecting that the girl may have died because of exam pressure but her father clarified that she was ill. The family also refused to conduct post-mortem of the student.”
