The decision has considerable bearing as the charge, which was contested by Salman’s counsel, carries a maximum punishment of 10 years in jail.

Public prosecutor Shanker Erande, however, argued the actor had knowledge of the act and that is why he decided to flee the spot.

A person sleeping on a pavement in Bandra was killed and four others were injured when Salman’s Toyota Land Cruiser allegedly rammed into a bakery on the night of September 28 that year.

The actor, made to sit alone in the dock meant for the accused, was seen occasionally dozing off during the two-hour proceeding.

He has been asked to remain present during the next hearing.
