Actor Aamir Khan and Madhuri Dixit-starrer Dil, released 27 years ago today. A romantic drama directed by Indra Kumar, all the songs of the film were a rage back then, and are still remembered. Songs like Mujhe Neend Na Aaye and the foot-tapping Khambe Jaise Khadi Hai, were trend-setters that ensured that the music cassettes of the film sold in large numbers back then. We take a look at some trivia about the film, which most film buffs would not have heard about.

The film was actor Aamir Khan’s first major hit after a series of flops. His debut Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (1988) was a huge hit, but then he faced a series of flops like Love Love Love, Awwal Number and Tum Mere Ho.

The film had its share of troubles. Singer Alka Yagnik alleged that the songs sung by her were re-dubbed by singer Anuradha Paudwal. This made her break all ties with the music directors of the film Anand-Milind and the music label T-Series. Alka re-united with the composers again after 2 years in the 1992 film Adharm.

Actor Zeenat Aman’s son Azaan Khan appeared in the film as a child.

The song Naa Jaane Kahaan Dil Kho Gaya in the film was sampled from Alaap group’s Chunni Udd Udd Jaye.

Before director Indra Kumar signed up for Dil, director Chandra Barot was supposed to make it. It was then titled Khunda, and starred Shashi Kapoor, Danny Denzongpa, Rohan Kapoor, Farha and Tabu.

The song Dil Kho Gaya was also remixed in the album Bom Bass. The remix was titled “Dil Kho Gaya (Smoove Summer Slammer)”. The remix was done by Amit and San J of The X Zecutive. This was in 1995.
