The makers of Boss may have thought that it’d be wise to release the film on Eid, in the middle of the week. But despite all the strategising, the film seems to have failed to live up to expectations. On Friday, even Hansal Mehta’s Shahid met with a similar fate.

“Boss didn’t do well despite releasing on a holiday, having a five-day weekend, a good star cast and being the only big release that week,” says trade analyst Taran Adarsh. Sharing the same opinion, another analyst, Amod Mehra, insists on seeing the second weekend collections before declaring the movie a flop. “In five days they have made not more than `38 crore, though they claim to have made Rs 45 crore. Even then, it’s far less than Besharam,” says Mehra.

Regarding Shahid, the experts feel that being a small-budget film, it might break even by the end of the week. “Shahid’s word of mouth was good but the numbers are still low and with seven films coming out next week and Krrish 3 releasing the week after, it will be very difficult for the film to survive. It has a very low budget and has been acquired at a very low cost — that’s the only silver lining,” says Taran.
