Amitabh Bachchan, Rekha reunite in R Balki's Shamitabh

Rekha has already shot for a few sequences for R Balki's next, Shamitabh. Dhanush plays a deaf and dumb character in the film that will also mark the debut of Kamal Haasan and Sarika's younger daughter Akshara.

In the ’70s, they teamed up for several blockbusters. But the last time Amitabh Bachchan and Rekha worked together was in 1981 (in Yash Chopra’s Silsila). Now, after more than three decades, they’ll be seen in the same film again, although it’s not clear whether they will have any scenes together.

While Balki couldn’t be reached for a comment despite repeated attempts, on being contacted, Dhanush didn’t deny the news, saying, "It won’t be opportune on my part to comment on it. Balki sir would be the right person to talk about it."

However, an October 1 tweet by Dhanush had a picture of him with Rekha, along with a caption that read, "LOOK whom I’m sharing screen space with in shamitabh. The one and only REKHA JI !!! #beautyforever (sic)."

"Rekhaji has shot for a few sequences for R Balki’s next film. Although we aren’t sure whether she will be finally seen with Mr Bachchan or not, it looks like she has shot a few scenes with Dhanush, who was very excited to share screen space with her. She might not have a big role in the film, but she has a very interesting part to play," says a source.

Although, after Silsila, Bachchan and Rekha haven’t been seen in one film, she dubbed for two Bachchan-starrers. She was Sridevi’s voice in Aakhree Raasta (1986), and also dubbed for Soundarya and Jayasudha in EVV Satyanarayana’s Bollywood debut Sooryavansham (1999). In the past, they have co-starred in many movies like Immaan Dharam (1977), Khoon Pasina (1977), Ganga Ki Saugandh (1978), Muqaddar Ka Sikander (1978), Mr Natwarlal (1979) and Suhaag (1979).
