The actor will converse in the language when he visits Chennai for a promotional event for Shamitabh

Amitabh Bachchan will soon travel to Chennai to promote his upcoming film, Shamitabh, directed by R Balki. And as a special treat for his fans in the city, the actor will speak in Tamil at the movie’s press conference on January 23.

An insider from the film’s production team reveals that this will be the first time that the megastar will be heard speaking in the language. "He has already started learning a few lines to interact with the locals there," says the source.

Bachchan had apparently promised his co-stars, Dhanush and Akshara Haasan, that he will speak in Tamil as much as possible when they travel to their home state. "As soon as he heard that he will be visiting the city to promote the film along with his co-stars, he informed the team that he would be keen to interact with the audience in their language," adds the source.

When contacted, Balki confirmed the news, saying, "The event will see a bit more than banter between Dhanush and Bachchan sir. He is learning to speak a couple of lines in Tamil for it."
