Doing a TV show has its challenges. And other than worrying about ratings, long hours of shooting and travelling, and boredom with the role too are issues. Many actors quit their popular shows and characters for greener pastures, while some threaten to quit for a pay hike and publicity.

Doing a TV show has its challenges. And other than worrying about ratings, long hours of shooting and travelling, and boredom with the role too are issues. Many actors quit their popular shows and characters for greener pastures, while some threaten to quit for a pay hike and publicity. Here are a few actors who quit their respective shows only to return soon after.

Vivian Dsena

Exit: After playing Rishabh Kundra aka RK on Madhubala for two years, Vivian was replaced overnight. He claimed that the reason behind his exit was that he didn’t want to play a father. But sources claim it was a tiff with the show’s co-producer Saurabh Tewari that led to his ouster.

Re-entry: Two months after leaving Vivian was back romancing co-star Drashti Dhami post Saurabh’s exit and a drop in the show’s ratings. “This new character is going to be challenging for me. The show’s producer thought I could do justiceto it,” he told a newspaper.

Aamir Ali

Exit: Aamir claimed he quit FIR since the show was changing. He had told HT Café back then, “The show is undergoing a makeover, which I don’t want to reveal. It was mutually decided that I should take a break.” Perhaps it was Kavita Kaushik’s (co-star) exit that prompted him as well.
Re-entry: Reportedly, the actor made a comeback on the show in March, after sorting certain differences with co-star Kavita. He has been part of the popular series since.

Ankita Lokhande

Exit: While rumours of Ankita quitting Pavitra Rishta had plagued her for a while, her three-month break fanned them further. Apparently, Shilpa Saklani and Gautami Kapoor were considered as her replacement, after her character was written into a coma.

Re-entry: Ankita returned to the show and stayed till it recently ended. She told a website, “I had indeed taken a break as I wanted to spend some quality time with Sushant (Singh Rajput, boyfriend) and my family. Doing a daily soap for as long as I have, you don’t really find time for anything else.”

Dipika Samson

Exit: In April, Dipika had reportedly quit Sasuraal Simar Ka as she apparently felt that her character didn’t have enough room to grow. She put in her papers and the search for another actor to play the role was undertaken.

Re-entry: A month later, Dipika had a change of heart. The makers and channel promised her diversity in her role and a pay hike too. She told a daily, “After being with the show for three years, parting was difficult. Now issues are sorted out, so I am returning.”

Neelu Waghela

Exit: Owing to her ill health and long shooting hours, Neelu had recently decided to quit her popular TV show, Diya Aur Baati Hum. In September, she had fainted on the sets due to high blood pressure and a severe acidity attack, and was even hospitalised.

Re-entry: Neelu told HT Café, “I had decided to quit as I felt that it was unfair to the makers if I didn’t put in my 100 per cent due to my health issues. But they were cooperative, and reduced my shooting hours from 12 to eight, and even gave me more days off.”

Kavita Kaushik

Exit: Kavita quit her hit show FIR, after playing the role of the Haryanvi cop Chandramukhi Chautala for more than 800 episodes. Back then, she had told HT Café, “I have quit. The decision was taken when I signed another show Tota Weds Maina. Doing two lead roles at the same time is tough. The channel, producers and I came up with an amicable solution.”

Re-entry: Five months later, she returned as her other show flopped. FIR was also faring badly on the rating charts, so the channel, makers and Kavita brought Chautala back on air.
