Deepika Padukone and Amitabh Bachchan last shared screen space in film-maker Prakash Jha’s socio-political thriller, Aarakshan (2011). Their next onscreen outing together will be in a project that is currently being directed by Shoojit Sircar. Over the duration of their recent shooting schedule, which they wrapped up in Kolkata last week, onlookers noticed that Deepika had come up with a special moniker for Bachchan.
An insider from the sets reveals, “She now calls Amitabh sir ‘baba’, which, in Bengali, means father. She considers him a father figure.” In the film, too, Bachchan plays the young actor’s dad.
Funnily enough, soon after Deepika started calling Big B ‘baba’, the entire crew, including co-star Irrfan Khan, followed. “But Deepika is the only one who calls him ‘baba’ on and off the sets,” adds the source.
While Deepika remained unavailable for a comment, Sircar said he can’t talk about any developments on the sets at this time.
