Actor Shamita Shetty celebrates her birthday on February 2.

On her birthday today, actor Shamita Shetty is missing her dad, Surendra Shetty, who died in 2016. “I haven’t had any party since he’s gone, so this year for my birthday, I would prefer to spend some quality time with my friends and family. Every year, normally, I go for lunch with my friends, and spend the day with people who genuinely love me.”

Shamita made her debut in Bollywood with the 2000 film Mohabbatein, but it was her song Sharara Sharara in Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai (2002) that gave a boost to her popularity.

She was recently seen in a web-series but is taking her time to decide on her next project. “The reason I took up work in the web space was that it was very different, and that’s how I approach my work. It does take me a lot of time to decide on what I want to do next, but I ensure that my subsequent work should not be similar to what I have done in the past,” she says.

One birthday ritual that Shamita, the younger sister of actor Shilpa Shetty Kundra, follows every year, is going to the temple before starting her day. She says, “After that, I go to an old-age home, do some charity and offer food to the needy.” Asked what’s the fondest memory that she has from her past birthdays, she gleefully reveals, “On my birthday, every year, my sister Shilpa tries to throw a ‘surprise’ party for me, but it just doesn’t end up being one! She’s terrible with surprises.”
