Last year, for the first time, Dia Mirza acted in a Bengali film — director Pratim D Gupta’s Paanch Adhyay (meaning, five episodes). And now, she’s set to return the favour by launching the same director in Bollywood under her banner, Bornfree Entertainment (the other partners are Sahil Sangha and Zayed Khan).

“Yes, I am going to produce the film,” confirms Dia. “Actually, it all started when Pratim narrated a one-line idea to me during Paanch Adhyay. I was fascinated by it, because that space hasn’t been explored in Hindi films yet. And once the script was ready, I felt it took a very interesting shape. I am very excited about it. Let’s see how everything goes.”

At present, Dia is waiting for Pratim “to come to Mumbai and give me a final narration”. She adds, “If I’m not wrong, he took the same script/idea to the Sundance Screenwriters Lab too. Ultimately, for us, the script and the screenplay have to be fantastic.” It’s yet undecided as to whether or not Dia will act in the film. She says it depends on whether there’s an interesting role for her.

Besides, Dia also has two other two under-production films ready to go on the floors. “We have already done the groundwork on one of them (penned by the writer of the 2011 film Love Breakups Zindagi, Sanyukta Shaikh Chawla, and her husband). These are exciting times for me as a creative person,” she says.

As for her Bollywood acting career, Dia maintains that she isn’t going to jump at every offer. “It’s not that I haven’t got offers, but now, I really want to be a part of cinema that I’m genuinely attracted to. I’m also happy working with new writers and directors,” says the actor.
