Finally, Karan Johar and Tarun Mansukhani’s Dostana 2 (sequel to the 2008 hit) is set to go on the floors this year. We’ve learnt that the nitty-gritties of the script are being worked upon right now, while most of the other details have been locked. Lead actors Abhishek Bachchan and John Abraham have been asked to work out their dates to shoot for the film post September.

Neither the producer nor the director is willing to speak about the film yet, but Abhishek is forthcoming. “Yes, Dostana 2 will be starting later this year. Right now, we are figuring out the schedules. Karan, Tarun, John and I had decided last year itself that this is the script we want to go with. At the moment, the film is in the pre-production stage,” said the actor, speaking to us at the HT Mumbai’s Most Stylish 2013 awards late last week.

Apparently, the sequel has finally been green lit after several rounds of script modifications. “It’s not about being happy or unhappy. Since Dostana was a big hit, none of them (the makers and others involved) wanted to go ahead unless they were completely sure of the script. They know the expectations are sky-high, which is why no one wants to take a chance,” says an insider close to the development.

For the female lead, Katrina Kaif’s name had been doing the rounds for some time. However, the makers are apparently still on the lookout. “It’s too early to talk about the actress, but they should find one within a month or two. Right now, all options are being explored, but Karan will take a final call once he wraps up Bombay Talkies,” adds the insider. Despite repeated attempts, Karan couldn’t be reached for a comment.
