Moments after the death of the ailing legendary actor at his Bandra residence on Wednesday, he started trending on the microblogging site Twitter, as fans started tweeting their tribute to the country's first superstar.

"He was an unparallelled phenomenon," a fan tweeted.

"Today marked the end of one of the famous star Rajesh Khanna .. Watching whose movies I grew.. Legendary.. RIP Rajesh Khanna RIP Kaka," another fan posted.

Fans also heaped praise on the actor's successful film career and charming personality.

"RIP Rajesh Khanna...you were the ultimate gentlemen and actor," tweeted Priyanka, an ardent fan.

"RIP Rajesh Khanna, India's first superstar with 15 consecutive superhits - a record that is still unbroken," praised another.

Many Bollywood events, which were to take place in the evening have been cancelled in Mumbai as Bollywood mourned the death of 'Kaka'.

The events that were cancelled included promotion of upcoming film Kya Super Kool Hain Hum, Subhash Ghai's Whistling Woods event which actor Salman Khan was to address and John Abraham's marathon event.
