However, unlike most actors who hire linguistics experts to teach them the same, Deepika took on the challenge to pick up Gujarati without a trainer. But she does admit that she would never have succeeded in doing so had it not been for her friends.

“Since she has a lot of Gujarati friends, she just asked them to interact with her in the language, and she made sure she called them for advice whenever she needed any,” says a source close to Deepika. The actor, meanwhile, reveals that she didn’t need to work a lot on her accent. “Leela is more like the girls of today,” says Deepika, adding, “So I didn’t have to change my accent completely; I just threw in a couple of words. And since I’ve had a lot of Gujarati friends growing up, I’m familiar with the language and the culture.”

Also starring Ranveer Singh, the film is set to release in November.
