That Shiamak Davar has spawned a generation of contemporary dancers is an understatement. The celebrity choreographer is often credited for giving contemporary dance the recognition it has today. Now, Davar plans a comeback as a singer with his new album, Shabop.

“Shabop means don’t worry, just dance. And, it basically comes from merging Shiamak and hip hop,” says Davar. His two albums, Mohabbat Kar Le and Dil Chahe came out in the 90s. When asked what took him so long to cut his third album, he says, “It’s just that I was busy with a lot of things. I was choreographing in movies, opened my academy and got involved with that. So, I couldn’t take out time for an album.”

About the album, he says, “I have composed all the songs of Shabop. The album is hip hoppy. Singers Shankar Mahadevan and Hariharan have also sung ballad numbers in it. The video will have me and my dancers performing to hip hop beats.”

He last choreographed a sequence in Tom Cruise and Anil Kapoor starrer, Mission Impossible 4. His next assignment will be the third installment of the Dhoom series.“I’ll be choreographing Dhoom 3 and am looking forward to it,” says Davar, who also worked for Dhoom 2 (2006).

Delving into his spiritual side, he says, “The book, The Laws of The Spirit World, gave me the strength to do everything that I’ve done.”
