In no hurry to sign up a stack of films: Sharman Joshi

In spite of delivering hits like Rang De Basanti (2006), Golmaal (2006), Life In A Metro (2007) and 3 Idiots (2009) in the past, actor Sharman Joshi’s schedule is somehow never packed with films.

He made his debut over a decade ago with Godmother (1999). And now, the actor is finally playing the solo male lead in Rajesh Mapuskar’s Ferrari Ki Sawaari. Has it been a frustrating wait? “I’d rather look at things positively and wait for the right offers than rush. I am in no hurry to sign up a stack of films,” he says.

The upcoming film, which releases on June 15, will see him play the role of a dad. And luckily, Sharman’s real life experiences as a father came in handy for the film. “I could understand the character’s psyche easily,” he adds.

But bagging this role was not as easy. The actor admits that it was quite a tough task. “While working on 3 Idiots, Rajesh had spoken of Ferrari Ki Sawaari. I heard the script and fell in love with it. In fact, I didn’t mind going through several auditions (40 to be precise) just to be part of the film,” says Sharman, who shares screen space with Boman Irani in the film.

At the same time, looking convincing as a Parsi man named Rusy, was what he found ‘extremely challenging’. “As far as the appearences go, I looked like a Parsi man. But I had to work on the accent and the body language. Things have worked out well,” says the actor, smiling.

At the end of this year, Sharman will start shooting for his next — director Tanuja Chandra’s Chitthiyan, a film which has been written by producer-filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra.

“It’s a very gripping love story and has been produced by Vinod Chopra Films,” says the actor.
