November has been a month of big releases.

After Krrish 3 and Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-leela, two more star-studded films hit theatres last week. However, Gori Tere Pyaar Mein and Singh Saab The Great have not fared well at the box office.

As per the trade experts, their performance has been poor. Gori Tere Pyaar Mein! released across 1,250 screens in India and made just about Rs 8.6 crore on the weekend, while the latter released in 1,970 screens and fared slightly better and made Rs 14 crore in the same time period.

"It’s surprising… because ! is a typical Karan Johar production with a star cast and songs, and Sunny is best at what he’s doing in the film, yet they both haven’t performed as well as expected," says exhibitor and distributor Akshaye Rathi.

While the box-office figures of Gori Tere… saw a slight upward swing after the first day, Sunny Deol’s film witnessed a marginal drop. "Singh Saab... performed better simply because it targeted the masses; Gori Tere... catered mostly to multiplex audiences," says trade analyst Taran Adarsh.

According to trade experts, the box office saw several big releases this month, and that’s the reason these two films have found no takers.

"A middle-class person generally watches two movies a month. This time, we’ve seen them lap up Krrish 3 and Ram-leela, so they have to miss some movies so they can balance their budgets," says Rathi, adding that the continuing positive word-of-mouth publicity for Ram-leela has made things tougher for the .
