Kunal Kapoor makes his debut as writer

Actor’s story idea is the basis of his forthcoming film, which also stars Huma Qureshi.

Actor Kunal Kapoor has showcased his acting skills by doing intense roles in Rang De Basanti (2006) and Lagaa Chunari Mein Daag (2007). In this age of multi-tasking Bollywood personalities, like actor-director-singer Farhan Akhtar and director Tigmanshi Dhulia’s recent acting turn in Gangs Of Wasseypur, Kunal is now looking to joining this list by contributing to other aspects of filmmaking, like story writing.

The actor had actually conceptualised the idea for his next film, the Sameer Sharma-directed Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana. “I had written the story and then Sameer and I worked on it for a while before we pitched it to Anurag (Kashyap). He loved the story and instantly gave a go-ahead to make the film,” says an elated Kunal.

This wasn’t just a one-off stint by Kunal, in fact, he is religiously brainstorming for other ideas which could be developed into films. “This film is my first as a writer, but I hope I come up with many more stories that can be made into films in the future,” he says. The film also marks Anurag’s debut in the family entertainer genre, as he is known for making such realistic films like Satya (1998), which he wrote, Dev D (2009) and That Girl in Yellow Boots (2011). These films, in spite of giving a new dimension to Hindi cinema, were only enjoyed by niche audiences.

Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana is produced by UTV Spotboy and Anurag is associated as a creative producer. It is being marketed as the first Indian film on food since the comedy is centered on a fun-loving Punjabi family and their quest for a lost secret recipe.
