Two years ago, he was directing a film on the fashion industry. Recently, Madhur Bhandarkar found himself on the other side of the camera, playing a celebrity judge as part of his cameo in Sagar Bellary’s Hum Tum Aur Shabana, toplining Tusshar Kapoor, Shreyas Talpade, Minissha Lamba and Pia Trivedi.

Confirming the Fashion director’s acting stint, Bellary said they were looking for someone to the part of the judge at the beauty pageant finale. “The producer suggested we have a known face to introduce the models. While we were toying with names, Madhur Bhandarkar’s popped up and we thought, “Why not?’” recalls the director.

Madhur BhandarkarThe producer was game since the acclaimed filmmaker had directed Fashion earlier. And Bhandarkar when approached, immediately agreed. "It was a wonderful experience working with him. It took about four hours to wrap up his portions," says Bellary.

Bhandarkar says he did it for his friends, the producers at Red Eye Films and Bellary. Recalling his moves to front of the camera, he maintains that it was good fun and brought back memories from his Fashion days.

“The hectic activity back stage was the same, but in this case I was a director’s actor for a change,” Bhandarkar smiles. “Sagar has great clarity of thought and a down-to-earth approach at the shoot. I’m really happy with the portions we shot for him.”
