Broad, curved, pencil, and bushy — Bollywood actors are back with the mustached look in films

Sunny Deol
Film: Bhaiyyaji Superhit

The actor will be playing a double role for the first time in his career spanning more than 20 years. In his double act, one will be a UP-based gangster, Bhaiyyaji. The first look of the flick shows him sporting a regal moustache, which goes with his rustic character. “There were several sketches that the creative team came up with, but this one fit the bill perfectly,” says the actor.

Akshay Kumar
Films: Rowdy Rathore and Once Upon A Time Again

After sporting a clean shaven look for years, Akshay has got a new look for his films Rowdy Rathore and Once Upon A Time Again. “I sport a moustache because my roles in Rowdy Rathore and in Once Upon A Time Again demanded it. I’m just going with the director’s brief,” he says.

Aamir Khan
Film: Talaash

Regarded as a perfectionist in Bollywood, Aamir Khan tries to to sport a new look in every film. This time around, the actor sports a big, bushy and curved moustache for his role as a tough police officer in Reema Kagti’s psychological thriller — Talaash. Aamir went into hiding to grow his moustache and was seen sporting the same until the shooting of the film was not over. He also sports a beefed-up look in the film.

Salman Khan
Film: Dabangg 2

He brought back the moustached look with Dabangg. Now, Salman ‘Chulbul Pandey’ Khan is back in the same look in his role as a corrupt police officer in the sequel to his hit flick. However, not many know that Sallu’s look is inspired by that of leading lady Sonakshi Sinha’s father, Shatrughan Sinha.

Abhay Deol and Emraan Hashmi
Film: Shanghai

Abhay Deol, 35, too has joined the moustache bandwagon for his negative role in Dibakar Banerjee’s Shanghai. “The moustache is for Dibakar’s film, Shanghai, a dark comedy about Indian politics. It is a different movie and required a different look,” Abhay has been quoted as saying. His co-star Emraan Hashmi is also moving away from his clean shaven and romantic image, and sports a bushy moustache in the flick. “I’m happy that I have now got a role where I can explore a lot with my looks. It’s drastically different, you won’t even recognise me,” he said.
