The next Munnabhai film with Sanju (Sanjay Dutt) is definitely coming next year. We should start shooting in the first half of 2012. The script is ready but Raju (director Rajkumar Hirani) is busy with Ferrari Ki Sawaari and Vinod (producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra), with his English movie (Broken Horses)," informs Arshad Warsi, admitting that that expectations are sky high.

Singer Asha Bhosle says Munnabhai MBBS and Lage Raho Munnabhai can make her smile through her blues. "So does Daler Mehndi. It’s scary as hell, I’m not even thinking about the Munna movie," shudders Arshad.

He’s doing three other sequel franchises too, including Double Dhamaal, Ishqiya 2 and Golmaal 4. "There’s no way I can’t be associated with any of them. That’s why I’ve put my production and direction plans on hold," says Arshad. "From July, I’ll be working non-stop. Thank God it will be in and around Mumbai so Maria (wife Maria Goretti) and the kids will not complain."

Arshad WarsiIn September 2009, Hirani had informed that he had started scripting Munnabhai 3. Munnabhai Chala Amrika had flagged of with the idea of Munna meeting the US President, but Hirani admitted that George Bush had been edited from the script.

"That idea was discarded after I discovered that Shah Rukh Khan is meeting the President in My Name Is Khan. It also happened in Singh is Kinng. I didn’t want mine to travel the same path," he had reasoned.

There’ve been rumours about a casting change. Chopra himself has confided that sometime, he’d like to see a Ranbir Kapoor or a Shahid Kapoor as Munna with a new sidekick. But Sanjay and Arshad have been retained for part 3, even though neither were the first choices for the roles.

Shah Rukh was supposed to do Munnabhai MBBS with Makarand Deshpande as Circuit. After Makarand dropped out, it was Vijay Raaz. "But we kept shifting the dates and 10 days before the shoot, I had no Circuit. Eventually Arshad, who was on my list of possible Munnabhais, was offered the role. He was hesistant, but I convinced him people would remember him by the role," Hirani had reminisced.

SRK had to go to London for a neck surgery just as the film was on the verge of going on the floors. So Sanjay, who was playing the cancer patient, stepped in as Munna.

Arshad’s sequels coming up

Double Dhamaal: I’m currently shooting for it. It’s a ‘physical’ comedy that demanded getting my face dunked into a fish tank to jumping into the sea. I have to match up to my earlier act if not outdo it!

Ishqiya 2: Should take off early next year. I love Babban even though he’s uncouth, brash and bad. Only, not another kiss. Though Vidya (Balan) and I did a good job of it, I can’t handle another one. I’d be panic-stricken!

Golmaal 4: Golmaal has become Bollywood’s biggest franchise after a hat-trick of superhits. I can’t wait for Golmaal 4 to start next year.
It’ll be the Diwali dhamaka of 2013.
