Now, a sequel to Khichdi-2?
Actress Supriya Pathak, who plays the character of Hansa in the movie, rules out the possibility of the show returning to smal screen, but doesn’t say the same for a sequel.
Khichdi — The Movie is set to hit theatres next month, and the cast of the movie is most excited. Based on the popular TV show of the same name, the film marks the return of Khichdi’s most recognized characters.
And even before its release on October 1, there is buzz about the show returning to the small screen. Actress Supriya Pathak, who plays the character of Hansa in the movie, rules out this possibility, but doesn’t say the same for a sequel. “Khichdi is like Superman, you can put it in any situation and make a movie out of it. Let’s see how this film does. After that, the director and producer will decide,” she says.
Fans of the show are most looking forward to seeing Pathak reprise the lovable Hansa on screen, as her character had amassed a following. Says Pathak, “Hansa is still the same. She understands only her husband’s ‘English’, not the actual language. The story, though, is different. Even the presentation is quite unlike the TV show.”
Most fans would remember Hansa for the catchphrases and words she invented during the course of the show. “Some of them like ‘What is?’ and ‘How are?’ are still used by a lot of people,” laughs Pathak, who has based her portrayal on many women she comes across in her daily life.
Total recall
“I thought I would have to delve into my fantasies to find a basis for the character. But Aatish (Kapadia, writer-director) showed me how the real Hansa is. After that, I have started seeing her in everyone.”
Also on the cards for Pathak is Mausam, a film she will star in along with stepson Shahid Kapoor. Husband Pankaj Kapoor will direct the movie. “ It’s absolutely fantastic to be shooting with family. The character is unlike anything I have portrayed before,” says the actress.
