People said playing mom is career suicide: Swara Bhaskar
Says 27-year-old Bhaskar, about taking on the role of a mother of a 14-year-old in an upcoming film.
Swara Bhaskar might have won an award for her performance in director Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari’s upcoming film, but not many know that the Bollywood actor was extremely apprehensive about the part initially.
She plays the role of a mother of a teenage kid in the movie. “I was in two minds about this film,” reveals the 27-year-old, adding, “It’s definitely easier to play a younger role. I don’t have a child nor do I plan to have one in the near future… and even if I do, I definitely won’t have the experience to play a mother to a 14- year-old teenager for a while.”
But eventually, Swara took on the film as a challenge. “I thought it was a different role. So, I signed on the dotted line in spite of people telling me that I was committing career suicide,” she says.
Well, the risk seems to have paid off. While Swara has won a few awards in the past for Best Supporting Actress, last week, at the Silk Route Festival 2015, she won an award for Best Actress for the first time.
“The best part about winning the award was the energy I felt in the auditorium,” says Swara, adding, “But the cherry on top were these two Chinese women, who made their way through the crowd, hugged me, and rattled off something. I didn’t understand what they said, but it felt nice.”
Incidentally, her look for the awards function was styled by actor Sonam Kapoor and producer Rhea Kapoor. Swara and Sonam, who starred in Raanjhanaa (2013), will share screen space again in Sooraj Barjatya’s next. “She is very protective of me, and since she is always horrified by my dressing sense, she decided to style my look,” says Swara.
