Raazi box office collection day 2: Alia Bhatt film sees a 50% jump, earns Rs 18.83 cr

After a brilliant start on Friday, Meghna Gulzar’s Raazi continued it dream run at the box office and earned a total of Rs 18.83 crore in two days.

Alia Bhatt continues to prove her mettle with each of her performances - be it as an abducted girl in Highway, a Bihari migrant in Udta Punjab or as a spy in the latest, Raazi. The film opened to rave reviews, with people appreciating the film’s subject as well as Alia’s acting prowess, and has been riding on the wave created by positive word of mouth. After a brilliant start on Friday, Meghna Gulzar’s Raazi continued it dream run and the box office collections rose by 50% on Saturday, making a collection of Rs 18.83 crore within two days.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted the figures and wrote, “#Raazi continues its SPLENDID RUN... Witnesses 50.07% growth on Sat... The SUPER-STRONG word of mouth is translating into SUPER-SOLID biz... Expected to collect ₹ 31 cr+ in its opening weekend... Fri 7.53 cr, Sat 11.30 cr. Total: ₹ 18.83 cr. India biz.”

Talking about her role, Alia had told HT in an interview, “I couldn’t believe that this actually happened with a 20-year old girl, who gave up her life and everything, and became a spy for India in Pakistan. Also, I have closely followed Meghna’s work, and after Talvar, she went on top of the list of people I want to work with.”

Based on Harinder Sikka’s book Calling Sehmat, Raazi traces the life of a woman who went undercover during the 1970 Indo-Pak war. Talking about what appealed to her that she ventured into making Raazi, Meghna had earlier said, “For me, the core thread of the story, which is the girl’s journey, was what stood out for me and that is what I picked out to make a film. In fact, my father, when I first told him… because this book had first come to him… he couldn’t understand why I would want to make this film. But there were layers that I saw, and that he saw later when he read the screenplay.”

The film also stars Vicky Kaushal, Jaideep Ahlawat, Soni Razdan and Rajit Kapoor in pivotal roles.
