Varun Dhawan is ‘Chachu No 1’ in family pic with newborn niece

Varun Dhawan on Wednesday shared a new picture of his family welcoming its newest member, his brother Rohit Dhawan’s daughter. The entire family can be seen in the picture, gazing adoringly at the baby, all dressed in white t-shirts.

On the t-shirts their respective titles have been written. Their titles - Chachu No 1 for Varun, Daddy No 1 for Rohit - are all puns on the titles of Dadu No 1, David Dhawan’s movies. David is the director of films such as Coolie No 1 and Hero No 1, all starring Govinda.

The picture shows David and his wife Lali Dhawan posing alongside their sons and Rohit’s wife, Jaanvi. Both Rohit and Varun are wearing backwards facing caps. Varun had recently said in a Twitter interaction with fans that he has nicknamed his niece, “Birdie”.

Rohit is a Bollywood director who most recently worked with Varun in the action comedy, Dishoom. He has previously directed Desi Boyz, also starring John Abraham and Akshay Kumar.

Varun most recently appeared in Shoojit Sircar’s October, for which he received widespread acclaim. The film was a moderate success at the box office. He also delivered a bonafide box office hit in Judwaa 2, which was directed by his father, David.

In an interview to Hindustan Times, David expressed regret that he hadn’t spent enough time with his kids when they were growing up. “I tried, but I was mostly abroad. But I used to take them (family) whenever I could. I never realised when he grew, when he went to college… I didn’t even know that Lali took him for admissions,” he said.
