John Abraham turns producer with a forward-thinking, avant-garde movie that holds worldwide appeal. In fact, a lot of actors' foremost production centres around themselves, capitalising on their star power, but John's initiative of opting for an offbeat theme and choosing a newcomer to enact the principal lead needs to be lauded.

It's a performance-oriented role and Shoojit Sircar has, very aptly, chosen a deserving candidate for the assignment. Ayushmann is a complete natural, has all the trappings of a fine actor and delivers a super confident performance. Vicky Donor is a small film with a big heart. The makers have had the courage to bring a diverse issue out in the open, narrating a daringly different story without getting preachy. Witty, funny and also emotional, Vicky Donor is forward-thinking, progressive commercial cinema which vastly enlightens and hugely entertains!

Movies that try to cleanse socially disreputable professions tend to get preachy and subsequently boring. But donating one's seed to enable the seedless garden a happy family is a cause that cannot be covered in a classroom. So director Shoojit Sircar takes us to downtown old Delhi where we breeze through this hilarious adventure that ends in just 122 minutes, leaving you craving for more.

While the very mention of sperm donation makes many cringe, this film manages to make the noble deed seem respectable without compromising on the hilarity that one associates with the process of donation. Daily Bhaskar

The flick excels when it comes to the entertainment quotient, required in any movie to make it worth watching. With a brief emotional roller coaster ride, Vicky Donor deals with a sensitive issue of sperm donation, in quite a light-heart manner. The Punjabi tadka and Delhi culture adds sparkle to an interesting subject. It definitely not just targets youth, but also assures entertainment aesthetically. The first half tickles your funny bone, while the second seems to be dull in parts, but Ayushmann Khurrana doesn't allow you to take your eyes off him with his excellent portrayal of the character with different shades.

It's definitely a must watch if you genuinely crave for different, entertaining and paisa-vasool cinema. For all the John Abraham's fans, who want to catch a glimpse of the actor, Vicky Donor would be an entertaining blow.

Vicky Donor (Ayushmann Khurrana) is full of the 'spunk' that your fertile imagination needs. He's the biological dad of 53 healthy children! Want more? He's unemployed, single, and his view of sex is, jitna mile, utna kum. But don't slam him as a sex-maniac just yet. So what if all he does is 'shag' for a living. At least he breeds joy, cheer and sperms all over the world.

Ayushmann Khurrana is rock solid. In this tailor-made debut, he's natural and impressive. He doesn't come from a filmi gene pool, but he'll hold his own (pun intended) in Bollywood. Newbie Yami Gautam is the estrogen element in this sperm-dominated enterprise. She's a sheer delight to watch, emoting effortlessly. Annu Kapoor, in a convincing performance, is bankable as ever. Director Shoojit Sircar is back with a bold, first-of-its-kind concept that's taboo. He makes this sperm of an idea swim all the way. He intelligently uses comedy to break mindsets, without embarrassing moments or awkward lines. The film entertains, without preaching sexual moralities or social service.

John Abraham couldn't have had a better start to his career as a producer, for Vicky Donor is an absolute treat for movie goers. With an exceptionally bold concept, this hunk of an actor-turned producer has pulled off a stunner, and has given Bollywood a fine talent in the form of "sperm donor" Ayushmann Khurrana.

The film comes as a breath of fresh air with newer talents to explore and an innovative story to unfold. Juhi Chaturvedi, the writer has done a fantabulous job, and has surprised one and all with a gripping storyline that will leave you asking for more.

Vicky Donor makes every minute count. There's a whole lot of fun for the audience, thanks to Juhi Chaturvedi's impeccably funny screenplay, that includes witty yet conversational dialogues and typical 'dilli' mannerisms that are smartly woven to guarantee a paisa vasool entertainment. When Vicky falls in love with Bong banker Ashima Roy (Yaami Gautam), the film takes an emotional turn. That doesn't mean it stops entertaining. It only gives Ayushmann a window to showcase his versatility as an actor. From a phuddu Dilliwalla to somewhat (in his own words) chyep sperm donor to a responsible lover boy, Ayushmann does it all with ease and confidence.

Vicky Donor marks the debut of John Abraham as producer and in choosing a sensitive topic like sperm donation, John makes sure he has the pulse of young audiences understood well.

It's finally here: a wholly original and fresh film that'll crack you up from start to finish. There are so many things to relish in the film. One of them is the masterfully moulded characters and their dynamics - like the one between Dolly Arora (Dolly Ahluwalia) and her mother-in-law (Kamlesh Gill). These two characters are created with such love, you fall for them instantly. Again Dr Chadha (Annu Kapoor) is so much fun to watch with his obsession over the sperm and his wily ways to get Vicky to do the job. Even Ashima's family is a delight - the proud Bengali father and the spinster aunt.

Dialogue is super-fun, folding in authentic Delhi's C-Block lingo, with an over-the-top cinematic license. As for the leading pair who are making the progression from TV: Ayushmann shows great promise, and serves up a fine performance while making it look effortless. Yami Gautam, too, impresses with a strong screen presence. So there you have it - served up at the cinemas this week is a hearty film that makes you connect with the characters while making you making you laugh at the adorable idiosyncrasies of a Lajpat Nagar life.

Shoojit Sircar takes you on a madcap ride with a solid dose of sanity thrown in. He does not just shoot in the dark, but has a blueprint in front of him as he begins Vicky Donor. The mood, setting, establishing the reason to donate and the final salvo he fires at the climax work big time.

Dolly Ahluwalia and Kamlesh Gill are splendid in their loud mad-cap characterisation. They outperform themselves. Annu Kapoor as the distressed doctor who has to satisfy his patients is competent. Both the debutants Ayushmann and Yami Gautam too, come up with an outstanding performance. Vicky Donor is not your typical Bollywood film. It is different. Daringly different. John Abraham has done well to partner as producer in this film that should generate a good Box Office return!
